Silk knit dress with lace applique

At the moment I am working on a dress for a family member of mine. This dress will be for her son's wedding.
The fabric is a cherry red silk knit, it has some weight and has some stretch. Not something I have used before but very luxurious.
The lace is a beautiful piece with 3D flowers which is from Rathdowne Remnants in Melbourne.

Below is the design for the dress. It is a simple dress with angled panels on the skirt which continue onto the back.

I begin the pattern making process by mapping out the person measurements onto my pattern block then tracing this off to start on the design lines.

Depending on the dress, only for more trickier fittings will I make a toile in calico just to ensure that the dress will fit perfectly when I cut it in the fabric.. Below is the fitting of the toile. All marking get transferred onto the pattern pieces for the new cutting.

Until next time!
